The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. (Jesus in Mt.6:22)
This Sunday I begin a new series of lessons on The Unitive Way and the Jesus Teachings. I have been freshly awakened to the transformational potency of Jesus' parables and guidance in large part by my current reading of The Wisdom Jesus: Transforming Heart and Mind--A New Perspective on Christianity by Cynthia Bourgeault.
Unity aligns with this perspective that sees Jesus as a Wayshower, an elder brother who has gone before to show us the way to living a fully awakened life, and that his teachings all point us inward to the divine essence of our Being. Of course, much else has been made of him, his life, and his mission and we respect those who follow all paths.
During this series, we will look at familiar parables and precepts from the Gospels through the lens of the Wisdom perspective, in which Jesus illuminates the way inward, the process by which we are transformed into knowing our wholeness, and the unfathomable Love, Peace and Joy that lie at our center.
Bourgeault applies the metaphor of a computer operating system to illuminate the human dualistic or "binary" mindset. This is our default perspective, which has us seeing opposites, distinctions, and a world of separation. The good news, just like in the world of ever-evolving technology, is that there is an available upgrade. We have the choice to upgrade this operating system to a "unitive operating system" in which the surface mind gives way to the heart as the organ of spiritual perception.
Jesus, as master of the spiritual upgrade process, repeatedly referenced the Kingdom of Heaven, more than any other single emphasis in his teachings. From the metaphysical perspective, all references to the Kingdom of Heaven point to an inner dimension of our Being, also known as unitive or nondual consciousness. In my Sunday talk, I adopt the Wisdom lens to behold the depth and power of the Jesus teachings that lead us to the heart of Truth. If you wish, you can watch the replay of my message on YouTube.
Peace and blessings,
Rev. Larry
